The Last Remaining Shul in Kovno - 1998, Coloured pencil of paper, 54 x 64 cm

Many shining lights arranged on a wall inside this synagogue represent the murdered and tortured Jews of Kovno. The fact that this shul houses a lively congregation is one of the miracles of our time. The tall black marble monument in the grounds outside is a memory to the thousands of children who were killed and to the few who survived and are now suffering adults. One presumes that the meaning of the hands reaching downwards, is to lift the children's souls to heaven.
