Magical Prague - 1986, Coloured Pencil on Paper, 69 x 54 cm

Time has stood as guardian to the Jewish town hall, which having been converted into a museum, houses the Torahs and many other religious articles. Drawings made by the children from the Terezin concentration camps, are also a sombre reminder of tragic times. One of the most unusual examples of Gothic architecture in Prague is the Old New Synagogue. This synagogue dominated the small square in the Jewish quarter and was loved by all and was unlike any other. Its real name is the 'Altneue shull' - the Old New Synagogue - but it also means 'Al-T'nai' or 'on condition' (that one day it will be given back to Jerusalem). This is also one of the oldest Jewish prayer houses existing in Europe. Within the sparsely lit hall of the Synagogue the senses are bombarded by great waves of sorrow.
