The Shri Yantra, Gouache on Cloth, 72 x 57 (with frame), 66 x 51 (without frame), 1995.

This is the great Tantrik yantra-diagram and when meditating on this one is able to continue the act of Creation. The chief symbol Tantra uses is sex and by the continual use of the sexual act one is participating in the creational act, which is seen as infused with a sense of totally transcendent love. The existence of the world is thought of as a continuous giving birth by the yoni (vulva) of the female principle resulting from a continuous infusion of the seed of the male, in sexual delight. The seed is symbolised by the tiny dot in the centre of the Shri Yantra which is the original point of energy. Its first movement is in the shape of a female, downward-pointing triangle which is red. From the dot and this first triangle evolve a series of interwoven triangle, 4 male (upward-pointing) and 4 more female (downward-pointing). The outer circles and rings of lotus petals symbolise the unfolded reality of the world. This altogether symbolises the creative act.
