The Kabbalah explains what happens at the moment of physical death. According to the Zohar, the nefesh or bio energy dissipates as the body diminishes. The life energy flow, or ruach, stays for a while and then also vanishes. The Higher Self, or neshamah, completely detaches itself from the physical body and enters the spirit world by being greeted by all the souls with which the person was close to while on earth.
